Week 1 - Yarn Wreath.

I thought I had a great idea of making a "fall" yarn wreath after seeing a picture of one on somewhere.    I was looking for something deep yellow with orange and maroon hues and decided to check out etsy.  Of course my great idea wasn't so much of one when I realized there were 120 pages of yarn wreaths!!  Oh well, I still liked them and wanted a fall one for our front door.  I found something similar to what was in my head but the $40 price tag was a little steep for me considering I didn't even really like it and I could probably do it for cheaper.
Off to the Michaels I went.  I had no idea how to make a yarn wreath and I didn't even try to figure it out before I went to the store with two children.  Small mistake.  I ended up buying a hodge podge (does anyone else say that) of stuff: two different bundles (is that what you call it) of yarn (Golden yellow sponsored by my favorite Vanna White and on orange color), the wreath, ribbon, two fall picks and a letter R.

That night I started wrapping the yarn around the wreath in which I still left the plastic on.  At this point I still hadn't looked into making the wreath but thankfully did one thing right by leaving the plastic on - I later found out it is a bear to wrap yarn around a wreath that is not in the plastic.

I tried to line each wrap around up perfectly (oh my gosh, what was I thinking) and after about an hour (and no progress) I decided to look up how other people made theirs.  I should have probably done this first as I learned that imperfections are perfections.  You literally just take the yarn in one hand and wrap and wrap until you can't see any wreath.  Because I tried to ever-so-perfectly wrap the first time I ran a tad bit short of yarn and had to go back and pick up one more Vanna staring me in the face and returned the other color yarn I never used.

I even hot glued each wrap - waste of time!

You see what I mean by bringing children to Michaels?  Or maybe it was that I didn't check what I was doing first.  Way to go mom by blaming the kids -- it was me this time.

I continued to wrap the yarn around the wreath until my liking.  I hot glued the fall picks on the side but didn't want the ends showing so I wrapped it in ribbon.  To cover (or make it look intentional) the ribbon, I hot glued an "R".  With the same color ribbon, I used it to hang the wreath.

Overall, this was a great project to do and I would most definitely do it again now that I know what I am doing.  It was significantly cheaper than buying one and I love it a thousand times more than one I could have purchased.  I don't think it would have taken long if I would have done it "right" the first time.

Oh look it's me.

Cost:
2 bundles (I still don't know if that's what they are called) of yarn = $5.00
Letter "R" = $.99
Paint for letter "R" = already owned
2 fall picks = $1.00
Ribbon = $2.00
Wreath = $3.00

TOTAL = $12 and I still have supplies to at least get me another 1/2 wreath
